Kamakhyanagar College is the biggest and oldest aided college of Kamakhyanagar Sub-division in the district of Dhenkanal, Odisha. With great expectations and nobel mission to enlighten the area and to awaken the young mass providing Higher Education at their door step the college was established in the year 1974, with the active and zealous co-operation of the district and local administration and the eight section of the people of the area.
The College got Govt. concurrence and university affiliation in 1974 for intermediate Arts and Commerce classes, Degree classes in arts and commerce were introduced in 1976 and subsequently Honours teaching in Political Science and Economics in 1981 and Accounting in1984 started in the College.
With the introduction of 10 + 2 + 3 patern in Odisha +2 classes from 1983-84 and +3 classes from 1985-86 were introduced in the college in place of and Two years degree classes. Science stream came into existence with the opening of +2 Science classes in 1984 which started functioning in its own building constructed on a plot of 18.380 acres of land.
Anthroplogy and Education is optional subject in +2 Arts stream were started in the year 1986-87. Degree Teaching in science and anthropology as an optional subject at Degree Stage started from the session 1989-90 & 1990-91 respectively.
From the session 2005-06 the College provides Honours teaching in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology & Mathematics in +3 Science, History & Anthropology in +3 Arts and Managements in +3 Commerce level.
Govt. Junior Vocational Collelge has been Functioning in this college from Sept. 2003 with two trades – viz – 1. Repair and Meintenance of Electrical Domestic Appliance, 2. Computer Technique.
Starting with only 160 students in intermediate classes and 7 teaches, the college has risen through the years to a strength of 1640 students in 17 classes and 36 teachers. In 1998-99 the college office and Library were shifted to its own premises. The college is affiliated to Council of Higher Secondary Education, Orissa and Utkal University and it has also got UGC affiliate under 2F, 12B. Vide letter No-F-8-3/78(CP) Dt 22.12.1978.
